Expertise

Dr. Kim earned his Ph.D. in Transportation in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Davis in 2008. Dr. Kim led research projects on life-cycle cost analysis (LCCA) in California for 15 years. He developed the California-customized LCCA software, RealCost CA versions, and coauthored Caltrans LCCA procedure manual. He trained LCCA implementation and provided LCCA support to the Caltrans transportation engineers. He is interested in transportation operations, infrastructure maintenance, alternative-fuel vehicles (ZEV, EV, AV, and HFCV), intelligent transportation systems, and work-zone traffic. He published over 30 papers and reviewed many papers in peer-reviewed international journals, including the Transportation Research Record and the ASCE Journal of Transportation, Infrastructure, and Construction Management.
