Expertise
I am a geospatial scientist, biogeographer, and paleoecologist with specializations in geovisual analytics, environmental change modeling, and human-environment interactions. My research focuses broadly on integrating quantitative field-based ecosystem observations with climate and environmental change simulations/geovisualizations.
Research Interests
- The role of Native Californians in shaping 4000 years of forest structure/composition in California’s mountains
- Reconstructing of high-temporal resolution Holocene histories of vegetation, fire, and climate
- Using paleolandscape modeling to quantitatively test pre-historic land-use legacies
- Visualizing of landscape change using 2D, 3D, and augmented/virtual reality environments
- Using of climate sensors and the Internet of Things to visualize topographic and physiographic variations in microclimates and forests
