Kevin Ferreira van Leer, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Child & Adolescent Development at California State University, Sacramento. As an action researcher he examines the social and cultural contexts that promote positive development and liberation for immigrants of color in the U.S. and their families with an emphasis on how contexts influence the educational and caregiving experiences of Latinx immigrant families. Previous research includes the culturally-bounded decision-making process of choosing early childhood education settings for Latinx migrant families as well as participatory action research with migrant communities in New England. As he settles into his new home of Sacramento he is exploring collaborations with local Latinx migrant communities to explore how engagement with educational institutions facilitates their wellbeing and liberation.
