Expertise

I study how environmental variation (in space and time) affects biodiversity and functioning of ecological communities, primarily seasonal wetlands (vernal pools and rock pools). This research also encompasses conservation ecology, food webs, spatial ecology, latitudinal gradients, eutrophication, species invasions, restoration, endangered species ecology, and disturbance ecology.

My students and I mostly research aquatic and terrestrial plants and invertebrates and use field, mesocosm, laboratory, and data mining studies to address questions at all ecological levels (individual to ecosystem).
