Research Projects/Interests
I am a hydrogeologist/geochemist working on water-rock interaction and groundwater quality. I’m especially fascinated by the impact of energy production on groundwater. I use a combination of fieldwork, laboratory experiments, geochemical analyses, and reactive transport modeling to assess and predict changes to groundwater flow and chemistry due to a variety of processes.
My research interests include:
- Impact of hydraulic fracturing (fracking) for oil and gas on reservoir chemistry and permeability, and groundwater resources
- Geological carbon dioxide capture and storage to combat global climate change
- Mineral carbonation (turning carbon dioxide gas into rocks for permanent storage)
- Hydrology of mantle peridotite aquifers in the Sultanate of Oman (a site of natural mineral carbonation)
