Abstract

Asian American history Zines Sacramento communities Asian American Studies COVID-19 Anti-Asian violence Asian American activism Ethnic Studies

Students in Introduction to Asian American Studies collaborate to produce short magazines or "Zines" related to the Asian American community. Each zine includes a history section; a community collage and reflection; an interview with a member of the Asian American community; a section on current events related to Asian Americans; and original student art.

"Recent events have let racism, stereotypes, discrimination, and expectations grow larger than ever. The push for Ethnic Studies is more needed as society begins to dehumanize and demonize Asian Americans. In this presentation, we will teach you the importance of understanding the people you co-exist with, as well as address current issues regarding the Asian American community on a personal level through interviews, shared experiences, and statistics." - from title page.
