Abstract
Students in Introduction to Asian American Studies collaborate to produce short magazines or "Zines" related to the Asian American community. Each zine includes a history section; a community collage and reflection; an interview with a member of the Asian American community; a section on current events related to Asian Americans; and original student art.
"When we look at social issues that concern American society throughout history, there are individuals that fall into overlaps when it comes to different aspects of their social identity from Asian American women to queer BIPOC. Because of this, they’re subject to a form of discrimination that is very particular to them as individuals who have multiple parts of their identity threatened. Through our zine, we hope to educate people on this theme of intersectionality that we believe is an unfortunate reality in American society. Through this first step of educating each other like we aim to do through the content of this zine, we can begin to shed light on important societal issues and start to work towards seeing real transformative change."
