Additionally, offspring of Holocaust survivors were required to complete a checklist derived from the 17 DSM-IV symptoms defining PTSD; this instrument thus yielded a subjective measure of parental symptom severity based on 4-point Likert scale items and, according to the authors, in some cases a presumptive diagnosis, as well.
