Abstract
Zodiac is a major composition for symphony orchestra consisting of four movements fully scored for thirty-three instruments and players. It is the culmination of my studies in music composition at CSUS with Dr. Stephen Blumberg and Professor Leo Eylar. The piece explores many compositional techniques and builds on my previous work in the field. It is also an example of the “Kalidescopic Development” technique I am developing which employs cyclical structures of varying lengths as musical constraints. The music contains aural illustrations of each sign in the western zodiac and also developmentally interrelates with itself on multiple levels.
