Abstract
The purpose of this project is to develop a handbook for vocational rehabilitation counselors working with and providing services to youth with disabilities who are transitioning from high school to post-secondary education and/or employment. Federal legislation mandates that transition services are provided to students with disabilities. Despite these regulations, transition services are underutilized and uncoordinated. Students with disabilities have a hard time identifying, accessing, and navigating adult services. Often there is a lapse in transition services provided to students with disabilities. Sources of data for the development of this project included peer reviewed journals, books, information from relevant websites, workshops, personal communications, and Master’s Projects. A handbook and resource guide was developed to assist Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors working with transition age youth by providing necessary information, tools, and resources to facilitate successful outcomes.
