Abstract
This qualitative study examines Mexican immigrant parents and their methods on how they talk to their children about college. The study focused on four Mexican immigrants (two mothers and two fathers) and their communications with their children about their desires for them to go to college. The research questions were: 1) What do Mexican immigrant parents want for their children to in terms of education? 2) How are Mexican immigrant parents helping their children to attend college? and lastly, 3) How are they telling their children about their educational aspirations for them? Data sources included interviews. The results showed how Yosso’s (2005) community cultural wealth approach explained the participant’s findings and their theories about communicating with their children about college. Findings included Mexican Immigrant parents caring for their children’s education and aspirations for attending college, lack of informational resources in the college application process, and gender socialization.
