Abstract
In recent years, there has been a strong push from states and school district to increase parent involvement. With the passing of No Child Left Behind by former president, George W. Bush in 2001, more accountably was placed on school districts to support academic progress of all students, especially on culturally diverse populations. This law also emphasized more focus on parent and community involvement in schools through increased funding for resources and programs. Increasingly large research supports that parent involvement is critical in a child’s learning and research in this area also asserts that parents of culturally diverse populations, although interested in becoming involved, face many barriers that hinder that involvement. Understanding this knowledge, can shed light and offer solutions to the increasing large problem occurring in our country’s system of education.
