Abstract
This research seeks to better understand the student veteran population at large public university in the Northern California region University. Using communication accommodation theory to explore student veterans' convergence and divergence from the university culture and norms. I conducted a qualitative analysis of 15 in-person interviews with student veterans at the Veterans Success Center. Results showed that because of their age and experience, student veterans employ unique communication tactics to accommodate their civilian peers and the university culture. This study found that a greater understanding of these tactics and investment in communication-focused transition assistance would be helpful for student veterans when they choose education to transition to civilian life.
