Abstract
Despite the existing research on attachment styles and cognitive processes, few published studies have examined the relationship between attachment styles and characteristics of autobiographical memory. The present studies aim to fill gaps in current research by examining the relationship between attachment styles and autobiographical memory. In Experiment 1, participants were asked to provide a positive (kind act) or negative (transgression) memory of a relationship event and were then asked to rate characteristics of the memory using the Autobiographical Characteristics Memory Questionnaire (Boyacioglu & Akfirat, 2014). In Experiment 2, participants watched a video of a couple in a kind act or experiencing a transgression and then rated the characteristics of the memory using the AMCQ-S a day later. Overall, results suggest that attachment anxiety and avoidance are related to characteristics of autobiographical memory.
