Abstract
There is surmounting evidence that spirituality and religion can contribute to an individual's wellbeing. Among persons with psychiatric disabilities, spiritual and religious beliefs are related with improved mental health outcomes. Despite the emerging literature supporting this positive association, spiritual and religious assessments and interventions are not included as part of therapy or treatment by the Placer County Adult System of Care. The purpose of this study is to explore the research and examine the impact of spiritual and religious coping in adults currently receiving mental health services. The results of this study demonstrate that consumers place a high value on the spiritual and religious dimensions of their lives and point to the potential benefits of this underutilized resource.
