Abstract
Podcasting is becoming increasingly accepted as a content delivery method in higher education. However, little research has been conducted to determine the efficacy of this type of mediated instruction:. Because student engagement has been shown to be an important factor in learning, this paper examines engagement as it relates to learning outcomes and student satisfaction in a podcast course. Factors of engagement are explored and measured among students enrolled in a hybrid podcast/discussion course. Findings indicate that statistically significant correlations exist between engagement with the podcasts and student test scores. Significant correlations between engagement and student satisfaction are also revealed. Implications of these findings are discussed, as are recommendations for future research pertaining to the use of podcast lectures.
