Abstract

Educational counseling School counseling Youth Sexual health Resilience (Personality trait) Latinx Latino/a Body image Academic Achievement
Latino youth are more likely than their peers to have mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. Research has shown that factors such as acculturative stress, discrimination, and immigrant stress can threaten self-esteem and thus contribute to poor mental health outcomes. PodeRosas is a 9-week group counseling curriculum that aims to promote self-esteem in adolescent Latina youth through the exploration of their identities. Our curriculum activities will support participants in recognizing their values and strengths to mitigate stressors that contribute to low self-esteem. Our group curriculum goal is to promote resiliency in Latina youth to cultivate positive self-esteem.
