Abstract
The researchers conducted a study exploring the relationship between personal history of maltreatment and perception of child abuse as well as likelihood to report to child protective services, specifically focusing on if personal history of child abuse has a negative association with both perception and likelihood to report. The study sample is comprised of 968 surveys collected by CALSPEAKS for the California Speaks about Social Welfare Project. The researchers obtained secondary data from a research project conducted by faculty advisor, Dr. Jennifer Wolf that was originally collected between November and December of 2016. Through quantitative analysis, it was determined that there is a negative association between personal history of maltreatment and perception of a witnessed act of child abuse however, no association was shown between personal history of child maltreatment and likelihood to report to child protective services.
