Abstract
Statement of Problem: How and why did Sacramento's central city street grid evolve to assume its modern layout?
Sources of Data: My sources of data include historical maps and primary-and secondary-source texts: books; government documents; newspaper and journal articles; online content; and City of Sacramento records on file at the Sacramento Archives and Museum Collection Center (SAMCC).
Conclusions Reached: Sacramento 's central city street grid evolved as an expression of restorative growth endorsed by coalitions of the city's business leaders and municipal officials as a means of renewing the city 's appeal in the wake of environmental, political, and social crises.
