Abstract
A reliable and efficient power system benefits not only the power utility company, but the consumer as well. This report provides clarification to concepts and calculations in the analysis of an electrical distribution system involving a 69KV to 12KV substation. The project will analyze different kinds of faults at different locations around the substation in order to see how the system will react during abnormal operating conditions. A fundamental part of achieving a reliable power system is the integration of protective devices. Different protective devices will be discussed in the report. Analyzing the potential fault conditions will provide the information needed to define the sizing and settings for these devices. A MATLAB script will be developed to assess the calculations.
