Abstract
The purpose of this project was to explore the concerns of older sexual minority men living with HIV/AIDS as they age in Sacramento County, California. Qualitative content analysis was used to analyze responses from 10 interviews. Participants were selected using a convenience sampling method at a local HIV Social Service Agency. Three themes emerged in the findings: Engaging Partnerships with Healthcare Providers, Social Navigation within the Community, and Economic Fragility. An additional finding in this study was evidence of AIDS Survivor Syndrome, a unique form of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder specific to the long-term survivors of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The implications for social work policy and practice are discussed.
