Abstract
Literature books that reflect the demographic diversity of this nation are missing from popular websites, bookshelves, libraries, and schools. Books that perpetuate social stereotypes, discrimination and racism continue to be used and sold around the nation. Children are not exposed to racial-ethnic, gender, or sexual diversity in their readings; instead, they continue to see negative images and stories about their minoritized identities. This content analysis study, thus, examines the diversity present in children’s books recommended by Google and Amazon. A total of 8 children’s books were chosen as the sample; all books were fictional and picture books with the exception of one. Intersectional theory guided the content analysis. Six of the books had animals as main characters; two books had White main characters. All books had male main characters. Most of the stories either had themes of class or gender. No people of color or females were found in the books.
