Abstract
Television viewing is a common source of entertainment for children (Beales & Kulick, 2013). However, parents may not be aware of the fact that excess amounts of television viewing can affect children’s health in regard to their food preferences, physical activity levels, and eating patterns (Boyer et al., 2012; DuRant et al., 1994). Excess amounts of television viewing can lead to a sedentary lifestyle and a lifestyle of poor nutrition, which increases the risks of obesity and disease (Anderson & Butcher, 2006; Beales & Kulick, 2013; Dehghan et al. 2005; Magarey et al., 2003). To address this problem, the researcher created a digital booklet to teach parents about the influences from television viewing on children’s health. The booklet provided strategies, recommendations, and resources for parents to aid them in leading a lifestyle with less television for their children, as well as for the whole family.
