Abstract
The father-child relationship has received increasingly more research attention in recent years. This body of literature confirms that fathers are unique and important contributors to their children’s development. Unfortunately, lack of emphasis on father-child research in the past has limited the availability of resources that not only inform parents about the role of the father in child development but also support them in nurturing quality father-child relationships. Likewise, internet resources are not always research-based or require a membership fee to gain access to the entire site’s information. Therefore, the purpose of this project was to create a website providing research-based materials that informs parents about the importance of fostering a healthy father-child relationship. The website involved three topics related to the father-child relationship: (a) father-child attachment, (b) father involvement, and (c) father’s unique contributions. The created website also included three contextual factors that may influence the father-child relationship: (a) stepfamilies, (b) coparenting, and (c) maternal gatekeeping. The development of the website’s content involved browsing existing websites, conducting a literature review, and collecting a needs assessment survey. Once the website had been posted, fathers and mothers evaluated the website’s content and organization. The results of the website evaluation revealed that the parents found the website useful, informative, and easy to use. Recommendations are made and discussed for future iterations of the website.
