Abstract
This project aims to address the challenges faced by foster caregivers in building strong, stable relationships with adolescent foster youth. The project responds to the lack of tailored support for adolescents in the foster care system, particularly due to the emotional, psychological, and behavioral difficulties they often experience due to past trauma. Through the development of a research-based website, the author offers caregivers resources, strategies, and tools to navigate the complexities of caregiving, manage trauma, and foster healthy developmental outcomes. The website also provides access to community resources and scientific research, helping caregivers create nurturing environments for foster youth. Twelve foster care professionals and caregivers, primarily educators, positively evaluated the website, appreciating its clarity, organization, and helpful content on trauma and caregiver-adolescent relationships. While most participants had no changes to suggest, some recommended adding interactive features or visual elements, and all indicated they would recommend the site to others. Ultimately, the goal was to empower caregivers, reduce placement disruptions, and promote long-term well-being for adolescents in foster care. To further strengthen this initiative, incorporating more interactive resources such as video guides and discussion forums could enhance user engagement. In the future, this website could be implemented as part of training programs for foster care agencies and community outreach initiatives, broadening its impact on caregiver education and support.
