Abstract
Since the first kindergarten was established as a part of the public school system in 1873, the kindergarten movement, gaining impetus over the years, has become an established feature of the American public school system. Realizing that in the organized play activities of the pre-first grade child there are to be found the beginning creative impulses which need to be stimulated and guided to lay the foundation for later creative achievement, educators have continued to bend their efforts toward more effective methods of kindergarten teaching.With the tremendous enrollment of the post-war years and the accompanying lag in provision of adequate facilities,the kindergarten, along with other levels of the school system, has suffered setbacks, but has never lost ground permanently. Teachers, faced with crowded sessions and lack of equipment, have done their best to improvise and supply the opportunities for the creative activities that they knew were so important to the development of their pupils.The purpose of this project has been to help meet deficiencies by discovering some activities utilizing easily obtainable materials such as scrap materials which can provide the stimulus to creative expression which kindergarten teachers need if they are adequately to enrich the child's concept of himself and his environment.
