Abstract
Statement of Problem
Grounding in electrical power system is a critical part to absorb personnel and equipment safety. Substation grounding design is to arrange path to the earth for disintegrated electric currents within the operating limits of the electrical equipment. The design of a proper Substation grounding system will provide a safe environment for operating personnel and anyone in the vicinity of the Substation.
In this project the grid currents, feature of soil resistivity measurements, the area of ground grid, shock situation, ground potential rise, bearable limits of electrical currents to the human body, bearable step voltage and human touch, Substation surface material, grid resistance for the maximum fault currents, and proper design for Substation grounding and required calculations will be discussed to ensure for a safe design. Also, the MATLAB simulation software utilized to develop necessary model for Substation grounding.
Sources of Data
Research papers, Books, online links, and IEEE Std. 80-2000 are main sources of information, and MATLAB has been used to illustrate the results.
Conclusions Reached
Through using general concepts in IEEE Std. 80-2000 that are outlined for Substation grounding as well application of programming with MATLAB and simulating results, an ample grounding system has been developed.
