Abstract
Deficits in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender cultural competency of physicians create substandard healthcare and health disparities. Despite widespread recognition of the problem and efforts to solve it through physician education, LGBT health disparities persist. Data consulted for this thesis include research and practitioner literature, experimental studies, and surveys of physicians, medical students, and health educators. Legislative mandates to improve physician LGBT cultural competency through continuing medical education or medical school education offer robust public policy solutions.
