Abstract
The purpose of this study was to understand the impact of the relationship dynamics collaboration between social workers and teachers in supporting students’ academic and behavioral goals. This study also explored interventions such as Positive Behavior Intervention Services (PBIS) in the form of contingency contracts and other resources for students who are at-risk for behavioral and academic success. Using snowball sampling, this qualitative content analysis study explored the perspectives of 11 high school social workers. Three main themes emerged from the interviews: Teachers Understanding of the Social and Emotional Needs of Students; School Social Workers Methods Utilized for Social Emotional Needs of Students; and Services Provided to Caregivers and Families by School Social Workers. School social work practice and policy implications are discussed.
