Abstract
The present study investigated how social media plays a role in providing parents with support in the midst of a parental challenge. The study further investigated how social media aids parents in accessing needed parenting resources and services. The participants (N=111) were asked to complete a survey which consisted of questions with response options of true and false, and Likert scale questions. The study revealed that White parents used more social networking sites if parenting support was needed compared to African American parents. The study also revealed that the higher number of needs for social networking sites, the greater influence social media has on one’s parenting techniques. Furthermore, given its popularity, social media and its ability to provide parents with various supports during a parental challenge warrants more research to potentially better service families.
