Abstract
Statement of Problem Among the states in America the legality of both medical marijuana use as well as recreational use are gaining popularity. As time goes on, marijuana use is becoming more common in movies. The way in which marijuana users are depicted in film is a subject that current research tends to lack. Sources of Data Full-length non-animated movies that depict marijuana use were sampled from three time periods; 1934-1959, 1960-1979, 1980-1999, and 2000-2016. Conclusions Reached The people depicted using marijuana in films were mostly white, adult, middle class males. Over time, there were some differences in the ways marijuana users are depicted. The current research hopes to bring attention to how marijuana users are portrayed in film.
