Abstract
Given the current lack of funding for schools within the state of California, music education has become a low priority and teachers have resorted to scripted texts to teach reading and writing. The project Sing and Dance Your Way Through First Grade Language Arts was created with the intent to motivate teachers to integrate music back into education and inspire students to become better writers. The goal of the project is to increase retention of grammar rules through a curriculum that is creative, fun, and effective. This project engaged students in the process of learning and assisted in their mastery of language arts concepts instructed during Grade 1.
