Abstract
Each year, over 1 million children become clients of Child Welfare agencies due to substantiated referrals of child maltreatment. Despite the efforts of the parents, child welfare agency and service providers, the rate of child maltreatment recurrence/recidivism reaches, by some estimates, 50%. Parent Anonymous Program is a parent education program based on mutual support groups. A secondary data analysis was conducted based on a previous evaluation of the Parent Anonymous Program conducted in 2007 by the National Council on Crime and Delinquency (NCCD). This study revealed that the Parent Anonymous Program is effective in decreasing child abuse risk factors such as life stress, emotional violence, physical violence and substance abuse while working with clients mandated to participate in the program by governmental agencies, such as CPS, or Courts.
