Abstract
Using Chaim Perelman's and Lucie Olbrechts-Tyteca's argumentation theory detailed in The New Rhetoric, the goal of this project is to generate a handbook of rhetorical strategies for producing reasonable persuasive arguments useful to the historical preservation movement. We will examine media reports, websites, and personal accounts, and from these we will demonstrate an abstract theory made practical in the form of a fluid communication guide for historical preservation movements, adaptable to the unique rhetorical exigencies of local preservation efforts and the distinctive life cycle of these movements.
