Abstract
Social media has become a vital part of our lives, and the use of social networking applications has rapidly increased in the past decade with the appearance of popular websites like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. People have been using different kinds of applications that help them connect, communicate, gather information, and collaborate with people from different parts of the world. However, people are still looking for more ways to connect and be socially active on the internet which is possible with the advent of various social networking platforms and apps. Social networking sites appeal to different demographics and users utilize these platforms based on the kind of data they are sharing like text, photos, or videos.
This project is an effort to develop a social networking mobile application named Roundtable on the Android platform that helps people connect only through audio. This free voice-based social media would enable users to create or join virtual rooms that are categorized based on privacy to discuss predetermined topics or have spontaneous conversations. The users can create a room with his/her followers or open to all audience in the application and be the default speaker, or the user can request to speak after joining a room and be one of the speakers if the owner of the room approves the request, or the user can be an audience who can listen to the conversations and would have no pressure to participate and can drop in or out of the virtual rooms anytime. This type of content also makes it accessible for all kinds of users which include visually impaired users.
