Abstract
Veterans with disabilities are in need of a variety of Federal, State, and local resources. The current influx of veterans with PTSD and mental health issues, due to the Global War on Terrorism, has made access to and information about these resources increasingly important. The purpose of this project was to develop a resource guide for veterans with disabilities in the Sacramento area. This guide will help relieve the anxiety and transitional difficulties veterans face when they return home from serving in the military. This guide was designed by and for veterans with disabilities. It will allow veterans to gain access to resources in the Sacramento area and to utilize these services. The resource guide has suggestions and advice on ways to lessen stress. A veteran who uses the guide will be self-reliant and gain the confidence needed to reach out to these resources through a positive referral process, which is also provided by the guide. Sources of Data The research sources for this project included related literature available in journals, Veterans Administration reports, governmental testimony, the World Wide Web, previous rehab theses, and direct contact with a variety of veterans service providers. Conclusions Reached A resource guide was developed for veterans with disabilities living in the Sacramento Area and to help professionals with responding to veteran-specific needs.
