Abstract
Professionals working with Deaf individuals may be unaware of the possible underlying issues that have been obscured by communication barriers. Professionals must be prepared to address and reduce the negative impact of communication barriers for each step of the rehabilitation process. From intake, assessment, to individual counseling sessions, there are tools and techniques that assist the counselor in dealing ethically with issues of disability. The purpose of this project was to provide a guide for rehabilitation counselors for the deaf, to increase knowledge of Deaf culture, enlighten professionals on the communication concerns and issues, discuss the ethical concerns counselors may face while working with this population, and provide a holistic perspective for working with this underserved population.
