Abstract
Problem Identification
HealthyPeople 2030 have made it a priority to reduce the lung cancer mortality rates throughout the United States. Within the United States, lung cancer is the second most common cancer. Within Yuba County, CA the lung cancer mortality rates are twice as high as the state level. Due to this, efforts need to be targeted to focus on Yuba County residents aged 50 years and older.
Analysis
Yuba County has taken several actions to address lung cancer within their community. Yuba County has invested resources to begin the Healthy Yuba County Initiative to determine why their lung cancer rates are the worst throughout the state. Hospitals such as Sutter Health and Adventist Health- Rideout are enhancing their programs to detect lung cancer sooner and decrease the rates of cigarette smoking throughout their community. Even with these actions, more needs to be done to improve the lives of people residing in Yuba County.
Intervention Proposal
The BreathEasy program operated by the Yuba County Department of Public Health consists of three teams. Each team has a specified intervention. The interventions include public service announcements, primary care physician seminars, and the implementation of a lung cancer screening policy.
Implementation and Evaluation
To ensure the implementation and evaluation of the program, BreathEasy will analyze six key areas. First, this includes defining who the current stakeholders are and what leadership theory will guide the program. Next, the paper will explain the steps required for the process and summative evaluation. Finally, the paper will discuss program strengths and weaknesses.
