Abstract
At Sacramento State, Project Rebound houses students who are pursuing higher education post-incarceration. This project aims to create an Ethnic Studies curriculum that contains material that is culturally relevant to formerly incarcerated students at Sacramento State. With addressing systemic barriers, oppression, and education disparities, various topics that are centered in culturally relevant pedagogy were chosen to create a unit for an undergraduate Ethnic Studies course. Keeping in mind the values of Project Rebound, and the foundational theories of Ethnic Studies, and best practices for curriculum building, this work builds upon existing research, while also indemnifying gaps of support that impact the success of formerly incarcerated students.
