Abstract
In 1995, former California State Librarian Carma Leigh donated her personal papers to the California State Library for preservation. For over two decades after this donation, the collection remained hidden within the stacks of the California State Library’s California History Section, largely untouched and wholly inaccessible to the public. In order to finally enable public access to these important historical materials, the intern assumed the task of arranging and describing the collection in accordance with accepted archival principles and methodologies. Numerous primary and secondary sources were consulted in the completion of this project, including archival materials, doctoral dissertations, published and unpublished professional manuals, publications, articles, and web sources. Through the rigorous process of arrangement and description, the intern preserved and made publicly accessible a significant collection of materials that might otherwise have remained hidden for years to come.
