Abstract
This study examined the needs of kinship caregivers in Sacramento, in the context of California’s kinship care system and its effectiveness in supporting caregiver efficacy. A Non-probability sample of professionals and kinship caregivers (N=23) completed a survey designed by the researchers. Study findings indicate that while several factors related to caregiver/system interactions impact caregiver efficacy, supportive and training services offered on a regular basis is key to success of kinship care efficacy. There was a strong association (Cramer's V of .661, p= .01) between participants’ perception of general support for kinship care and specific resource based support found, which should be taken into account when designing efficacious kinship care programs.
