Abstract
This research utilized a quantitative descriptive survey to analyze the perspectives of foster care workers on the psychological impact of the foster care system on foster youth. A total of 30 participants were recruited for the study using non-probability snowball technique. The researcher used Likert scale questionnaires to evaluate participant’s perceptions of the foster care system on the mental health, cognitive outcomes, and behavior of foster youth. The ecological systems theory was used as the underlying theoretical framework to explore the relationships (if any) between participants micro and mesosystems and their perspectives. The research findings indicate that the majority of the foster care workers perceive adverse psychological outcomes on foster youth. The research findings, however, did not show very significant relationships between the demographics of participants and their perspectives. Implications for social work practice and policy are discussed.
