Abstract
This study explored the relationship between parenting styles/parental involvement and student’s academic achievement within the Indian community. As an exploratory quantitative study, a convenience and snowball sampling method was used to survey 30 undergraduate students attending California State University, Sacramento. Participants answered multiple-choice questions regarding academic experiences, parental expectations and parental involvement. Findings from the frequency and summary statistics data analysis revealed high percentages of parental involvement and child academic achievement. One remarkable finding of this study was the impact of the parent’s academic level and their academic expectations of their children. This study demonstrates the need for further research on the Indian population and exploring the impact Indian culture could have on student academic achievements.
