Abstract
Recent advances in the accessibility, knowledge and freedom found within the Internet has greatly helped society in their daily routines. Unfortunately, the Internet also allows cyber sexual predators to anonymously use this same medium as a tool to sexually solicit, exploit and converse with underage children. This has given way to Federal, State and local law enforcement agencies initiating Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) taskforces. ICAC taskforces allow members of law enforcement to pose as underage children and to communicate with cyber predators online. This project is a proposal for the implementation of an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) taskforce within the Vallejo Police Department. Currently, the Vallejo Police Department does not have a cyber crimes unit or a dedicated Detective assigned to handle child sex crimes. By implementing an Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce (ICAC), the Vallejo Police Department can take a pro-active stance against cyber sexual predators and protect the innocence of the children of Vallejo.
