Abstract

A worker may spend hours immersed in a virtual world with a virtual community. Key elements such as instant messaging, the formation of weak ties, social capital and knowledge transfer in these virtual communities are examined. From this, a theoretical foundation of the key elements for boosting worker productivity will be presented.
