Abstract
Statement of the Problem There is hardly any accessible percussion repertoire to people with arm injuries or physical disabilities. Percussionists are expected to play with two hands, but if they have an injury or disability that prevents them from playing with two hands, the options are to modify existing repertoire or not play, which are not ideal scenarios.
Purpose of the Project This project helps fill the gap for one-handed repertoire. It can serve as a way for people with arm injuries or physical disabilities to continue playing without musical modifications while still developing themselves as a timpanist for soloistic and ensemble settings.
Project Description This is a method book containing one-handed etudes and solos for timpani. The first seven etudes focus on seven essential skills needed for timpani playing, which build up in difficulty. The next three etudes combine some of the skills for extra practice and three solos building up in skill combination end the book. Each etude has a left and right hand version. The solos only have one version, but each solo can be played with either hand, so the performer can pick which hand they want to use.
