Abstract
Current health issues, such as drug/alcohol abuse, obesity and Type 2 Diabetes are on the rise with adolescents in the United States. Studies show a link between students’ health and their academic performance. Teaching a meaningful Health course to high school students can be challenging. The review of literature suggests there are several factors that are of importance when considering how to create a successful Health curriculum, and at the forefront of this change is an integration of technology into the course. This curriculum project is designed to show educators on how to successfully implement technology, specifically in a hybrid format into a unit on substance abuse. Specifically, students will learn how to be successful in a Health course, while using the unique hybrid platform. Using online research to create projects, participate in discussions, and learn through simulation, students will develop a deeper understanding of substance abuse and how it can impact their health and their lives.
