Abstract
A healthy daily routine is important for the healthy development of a child as well as providing a healthy home environment for family members. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic began, many children’s and families’ routines were disrupted. The uncertainty of the illness, stay-at-home orders, school closures, and many additional stressors impacted the daily lives of children and their families. Many of these stressors can result in or increase depression, anxiety, obesity, suicidality, and many other various challenges. Furthermore, a chaotic schedule and unstructured lifestyle increases the likelihood of these stressors impacting children and their family’s wellbeing. This project My Quarantine Routine promotes maintaining a healthy scheduled lifestyle for children and their families. My Quarantine Routine models behaviors throughout the story wherein the characters illustrate how to maintain a healthy lifestyle through proper nutrition, exercise, outdoor activities, coping skills, adequate sleep schedule, and positive social interactions. This project also includes a worksheet for children and their families to complete. The worksheet assists in encouraging children and their families to evaluate their daily routine and make sure they are maintaining a well-balanced lifestyle. In addition, it encourages the families to try and implement new activities into their daily schedule. The literature reviewed assisted in developing My Quarantine Routine to offer children, parents, teachers, school administration, and counselors a tool to help children properly manage their schedules during unpredictable times.
