Abstract
The purpose of this study was to assess the Master of Social Work (MSW) program at California State University, Sacramento (CSUS) to determine if the program effectively incorporated mindfulness into its curriculum and prepared students to apply mindfulness to social work practice. The study also asked respondents to complete a self-assessment in order to measure how mindful second year MSW students enrolled in CSUS were. Findings from this study suggest that mindfulness has been inconsistently incorporated into the CSUS MSW program, that not all students are prepared to apply mindfulness to social work practice by the MSW program at CSUS, and that MSW students at CSUS are only somewhat mindful. For these reasons, this study argues that the Department of Social Work could improve its MSW curriculum to be more inclusive of mindfulness.
