Abstract
This qualitative study explores the knowledge and perceptions that eighteen Master level social workers have on the topic of medical cannabis. As medical cannabis is no longer illegal under state statue, the researcher was interested in establishing the degree of knowledge and belief systems of social workers who may or may not be working with a client who is affected by this issue. The findings presented in the study show that sixty seven percent of the social workers interviewed were able to identify the most widely known medical conditions that may warrant the use of medical cannabis. Forty percent of the social workers interviewed had knowledge regarding the laws pertaining to the use of cannabis as medicine, and sixty seven percent of participants had knowledge regarding the use medical cannabis producing positive results for people living with HN/AIDS or cancer. As the number of people seeking an· alternative to traditional pharmaceutical · medications continues to rise, it becomes important for social. workers to have an
increased knowledge regarding benefits of medical cannabis use.
